Everyone Needs a New Hairstyle Now and Then

Dagmar Garcia, a patient of Shriners Hospitals for Children - Galveston, suffered severe burn injuries and loss of hair from an automobile explosion in the Mexico City area.

Unfortunately, she was not a candidate for tissue expansion, the surgical solution for cases such as this. However, Wigs for Kids came to her aid and selected Garcia to receive a hair donation.

In 2007, Wigs for Kids helped more than 120 children. Dagmar Garcia is the second child at SHC- Galveston to benefit from this generous organization. To learn more about Wigs for Kids visit www.wigsforkids.org.

Wigs for Kids, a non-profit organization, has been relying on hair donations since 1980. Located in Rocky River, Ohio the organization takes much pride in their ability to support and provide children with custom hair-pieces. The only requirement for a child to become a recipient is that the child has lost hair due to a medical condition.

Local hair stylist, Kara Guthrie, heard about this patient and donated her time and expertise. Guthrie measured the patients scalp, and came in especially to cut and style the donated hair for Garcia.
